chinese folk dance
2012-2016
I started dancing in traditional Chinese folk dance when I was 5 years old.
At the time, dance was a lighthearted hobby, a way to put makeup and pretty clothes on every once in a while while simultaneously being able to connect with my culture.

moon goddess
Being my first solo ever, I have grown quite attached to this dance.

It was the first moment I realized how much I loved to perform.

blue dream
This solo marked the beginning of my exploration of storytelling using dance and movement.

I challenged myself to think past the technique, the perfect pointed toes and straight knees, and really express the story of a girl dancing in the rain, unbridled by fear.

swan lake pas de trois
While I had already been training in classical ballet for 4 years, this variation was my first time performing en pointe (with pointe shoes).

overthought
The first dance I worked with props, this solo was a big step in how I learned to tell stories with dance and use more emotion to convey a deeper meaning.

paquita etoile variation
In ballet, I've always struggled with my arms; they're long and they tend to flail when I am unintentional with them. This variation was a huge step in learning how to use them properly, as well as using my upper body to convey ease and grace.

glissando
This piece challenged me in every way possible, technically, musically, emotionally, and more. It remains one of my favorite solos for those reasons.

holding breath
In the past, I've had problems breathing properly during dances; I hold my breath and hope everything goes well, and inevitably, I run out of breath quickly. This dance taught me it's okay to breathe, I need to breathe.

pharoahs daughter variation
A fast paced, lively variation, I had to learn how to move quickly and cleanly with this dance.
